This vast astral picture plane is layers and layers of complex hand drawn screenprint plates. Each plate is a toned variation from gray to black printed with subtle transparent inks. The build up of grays to black with hints of chiaroscuro stars adjust the eye not only to darkness, but also to the possibility of infinity. All tone, no texture, all a balance between light and dark, the sophisticated nuanced palette of Vija Celmins continues to amaze.
